Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

Liberal Arts & Professional Studies

Certificates allow you to complete a specific group of university courses (for credit) as either part of your degree studies or separately. Additional details on certificates

The TESOL Certificate at York University prepares you to teach English to adults in Canada and internationally. The Certificate provides a gateway to opportunities to teach in Canada and around the world. It is accredited by TESL Ontario, a credential widely sought by employers in Ontario, and, as a university credential, it is recognized by employers around the world.

The program emphasizes the development of teaching knowledge and practical classroom-based skills for a variety of teaching contexts. We provide a guided teaching practicum for practice teaching, in person and online, as well as opportunities to teach and learn in Japan and Mexico with our international partners. Designed to be flexible, the program can be completed part-time or full-time. Complement your undergraduate degree by completing it concurrently or complete it full-time post-degree to gain opportunities for immediate employment in Canada or abroad.
